MAGIBO – Magic in every house

THE IDEA is to change the consumption habits for existing small products as well as to create new ones at home just like magic. Me, an architect, wants that every household has a ‘magic box’ incorporated into their kitchen or not, just like a microwave. So that every family member will be able to do their own magic spell for the desired product. Kids will have their toys, adults will have their kitchenware or tools while the older ones can have some decoration products, or just the model of whatever fits into the magic box

SO HOW WILL IT WORK? Magic things are happening in our magic box called Magibo. A single touch of love will connect your phone with Magibo through Bluetooth. Ones it is done, you can open the MagiboApp to choose the model from an infinite library of objects that fit your dimension, material and creation time needs. Ones you find the desired object, another touch of love and the timer on the Magibo will show you the remaining time to accomplish the desired wish. Hocus pocus and voila!

SO WHO WILL BE DESIGNING ALL THE OBJECTS? It will be young modelers, industrial designers, companies from all over the world competing to create the best designs taking into consideration factors such as material usage, production process - time needed for magic, as well as file size for fast uploading of the 3d models. The most successful designs will also be the most rewarding. So why not design something that is a solution to a form, function, usability and whatever need and sell it all over the world through the MagiboApp?

IS THERE A PROBLEM? There were big commercial and social hopes when 3d printers appeared. However, while still popular for industrial use, they did not manage to be used by a large number of families. Even my experience as an architect was far from satisfying. The setting up was complicated, time was slow and quality bad. From that time a lot of improvements have been done, but still, no revolution. Well, let’s talk how a Magibo will be different from a 3d printer.

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT IT? A Magibo, will be like a multifunctional printer that consolidates the functionality of a 3d printer, scanner and copier. An option for recycling the older stuff is to be consider to lessen the need of buying new plastic all over again. And most important, all the interactions with the Migibo will be user friendly and will incorporate flawless UX/UI design.

IS IT POSSIBLE? There are already 3d printers with lovely design, flawless print quality, relatively cheap, the sizes of an incorporated microwave appearance, easy to use and with wide support of materials. Yes, however these are the + qualities of 10 best 3d Printers of 2018. But we want it all in one! There are apps that can already use AI to create a 3d model from a 2d image, so we will be basically scanning by taking pictures of the object we need, saving it and basically copy/replicate it as many times as necessary.

WHAT IS THE KIND OF PLASTIC TO BE USED? Polylactic Acid (PLA) or better — It’s probably no surprise that one of the most commonly used bioplastics in the world would also dominate in 3D printing. A biodegradable thermoplastic aliphatic polyester, PLA is made from renewable, organic resources like corn starch or sugarcane. It’s commonly used to make food packaging and biodegradable medical devices and implants. PLA is great for 3D printing because it’s easy to work with, environmentally friendly, available in a variety of colors, and can be used as either a resin or filament.

WHO SHOULD BE IN THE DREAM TEAM? Sweden is the best place for Magibo to be born and be great! Sweden has already such giant as Electrolux, the appliance manufacturer that could develop and produce the first Electrolux Magibo on the global arena at a quality of a world brand. Another local/global team member could be Spotify, the music streaming service, that can work on MagiboApp, however this time we will be streaming 3d models instead of music from another kind of artists. No doubt, Scandinavian Design will also help propel the idea of having a Magibo in every house.

LET'S IMAGINE THE FUTURE? Suppose that your kid wants a Lego toy, well one after another. Just buy the design from Lego from MagiboApp and print it at home! Be smart and recycle the old toys, reuse the materials for new ones! Or for instance you need an extra plate, just scan one and replicate it. Lost a button, do the same! Kitchen is to become a place not only where food is prepared and cooked but also a place for non-food creativity, a place where magic happens! So as one can’t imagine a kitchen without a dishwasher, stove, microwave or fridge now, the same way, there will be no kitchen without an Magibo in the future!
