ACCURENT – Creating transparency in the renting process

0

We offer housing companies a software solution that digitalizes the handover inspection and works as a trustee in the renting process.

Our digital software allows tenants to intuitively scan their apartments for damages when moving in and out. The data is stored, allowing housing companies to compare before and after footage, without physically visiting the apartment.

Our customer insights show that 5/6 housing companies identify the handover process as their main pain point. Tenants on the other hand often feel insecure if they will be charged for damages they may or may not have caused, creating issues with trust and transparency.

How did we discover the opportunity?

We spoke to over 50 experts and customers (landlords, big housing companies, real estate brokers, agents, realtors and industry experts) and ask them what problems they encounter. We did this by interviews and “MOM-Testing” them via Skype, in personal interviews and telephone consultations. We did the same with tenants, asking them about what problems they encounter when renting. We conducted a survey with 54 people, and then “MOM-tested” a sample of 10 people qualitatively to get a deeper understanding.

Initially we started with different assumptions, but discovered in this process that the handover experience is one of the main pain points for housing companies. It is a real market need since it costs them a lot of time and it creates friction, which often leads to an unpleasant customer experience. They don’t want to be perceived as the “bad guys” and want to work on smoothing that experience, besides the monetary reasons. Of the tenants, we spoke to 6 out of 10 people experienced trust and transparency being their main problems and was a consequence of being charged for damages they perceived not having caused.
