Annually about 4 million new mobile phones are sold in Sweden and Sweden has approximately 7 million smartphone users. Only 10-30% are reused and Swedes are estimated to have 20-25 million unused mobile phones stored away at home.

The same situation applies to Europe. A Deloitte study shows that in major EU countries (Germany, France, UK, Poland, Italy and Spain) more than 40% of the 270 million smartphone users keep their previous phone when they buy a new one.

Consumers are estimated to switch to a new mobile phone every 12-36 months even if the technical lifespan often is significantly longer. The same applies to many consumer electronic products like laptops, tablets and wearables and more and more are being added.
