Swedish Compass - Towards sustainable consumption

31

Probably all consumers have asked themselves at some point before a purchase: what is the cost for the environment?

The Swedish Compass is a tool for determining a products impact on the environment by calculating the total cost for society. The monetary value gives the consumer a true possibility to evaluate a product's environmental effect in relation to the market price and at the same time a possibility to evaluate products in relation to each other. Researchers at Chalmers and IVL, The Swedish Environmental Research Institute, has dedicated over 30 years of research into acquiring the data needed for making sustainable purchases and the consumption compass possible.
