Minnity - helping professionals better understand the people they care for... instantly

By: Katarzyna Hess-Wiktor

There are 50 million people living with dementia worldwide and this number will triple by 2050. Half of them need personal care.

People living with dementia often find it hard to express what they want and need. They become confused easily and often forget things. It is very important that other people, especially professional caregivers, understand their individual life stories, strengths and needs. This way, they can relate to the client in a better way: serve Maria tea in her favorite cup och talk to Johan about his travels, which makes him happy and relaxed. Research shows that these small things - called a person-centered approach - largely improve the quality of life of people with dementia and help them cope with their everyday life.

Nowadays, long-term dementia care providers gather information on the caretakers usually relying on lengthy paper documents, which are rarely accessible during caregivers' daily work. Moreover, care quality is also diminished because of the large turnover of care workers and high number of persons each of them attend to. In Sweden, an individual receiving home care will meet an average of 15 different caregivers within 2 weeks.

The Minnity app enables professional caregivers to deliver individualized care to every caretaker with the help of a smartphone. It facilitates faster and better care thanks to an innovative interface and team collaboration features. It improves continuity of care by supplying the same information to all caregivers engaged with a caretaker. By providing essential information on the individual's life story and needs in an easily accessible manner, the tool facilitates communication and effective care. It also allows caregivers to improve their caregiving skills through supplying them with knowledge, real-life examples and tips from their colleagues. Minnity improves dementia care quality and effectiveness by helping professionals better understand their clients… instantly.
